The common one is three linear motion coordinates plus one rotary motion coordinate. It can ensure the workpiece to complete the processing of the other four surfaces except the mounting surface and top surface after one clamping, which is most suitable for processing box parts. Generally, it has indexing worktable or CNC conversion worktable, which can process all sides of the workpiece; It can also make joint motion of multiple coordinates to process complex spatial surfaces. Some horizontal machining centers are equipped with automatic exchange worktables. While processing the workpieces on the worktable in the working position, they can load and unload the workpieces on the worktable in the loading and unloading position, so as to greatly shorten the auxiliary time and improve the machining efficiency.

The column height of the vertical machining center is limited, and the machining range of box workpieces have to be reduced, which is the disadvantage of the vertical machining center. However, the vertical machining center is convenient for workpiece clamping and positioning; The movement track of the cutting tool is easy to observe, the debugging program is convenient to check and measure, and the problems can be found in time for shutdown or modification; The cooling conditions are easy to establish, and the cutting fluid can reach the tool and machining surface directly; The three coordinate axes are consistent with the Cartesian coordinate system, which is intuitive and consistent with the perspective of the drawing. Chips are easy to be removed and dropped to avoid scratching the processed surface. Compared with the corresponding horizontal machining center, it has the advantages of simple structure, small floor area and low price.
